Plot from Wikipedia:
With dreams of becoming a composer and someday writing a song for her favorite idol, Haruka enters the Saotome Academy, a prestigious performing arts school. If successful there, she'll be able to join the Shining Agency after graduation.[...] In the end at graduation, two students are to be paired up by the students' choice, one taking the idol role and the other the composer role. After being paired up, the "pair" will sing a song that was both composed, written and sung by the pair. If successful, the pair will join and take the spot as the new Shining Agency debut artists.
So I encountered this anime during my first stay in AME's tambayan. Some members were fangirling over this group of pretty-boy idols singing a pop song in a concert. Turns out this was the opening/ending theme. The scene then shifted to this academy with a quirky and ostentatious headmaster with a weird way of speaking.
SHIIIIIIINING SAOOOOOTOME, I have no woRRRRRds...
I finally gave in to the temptation to watch this because of the hype. It's only 13 episodes long so it took me only a day to finish it.
Notes:
- The lead, Nanami Haruka, is such an airhead. It's annoying how many times she can say "Eh?" in one episode.
- And yes, what is up with using clueless and ordinary-looking girls as leads in reverse-harem anime? Fruits Basket? Ouran? Fushigi?
- Of course, when a reverse harem/harem is concerned, expect a lot of cliches."Your songs lack heart!", "I want to work with all of you.", yesweallwantthefemaleleadandshessocluelessabouthercharms OTL.
- Cliche part 2: Hearts, stars and bubbles appear when they start singing. OTL OTL OTL
- Surprisingly, as much as I'm annoyed, it's my guilty pleasure. Teehee. I hate it.
- Nanami's eyes are so freaky. She looks like a ghost =__=
- Pre.dic.ta.ble.plot. Come on. That debut song was soooooooo expected. And there were several times that I predicted what the character was going to say.
- LSS Song. Nuff said.
So overall, as much as I say that I dislike it, I like it.
Now leave me alone.
